Summary

This case study research represents a global elevator industry. The case company is Kone one of the leading elevator technology companies. The study concentrates on buildings construction phase, during which smart elevators can provide the construction ecosystem with a common digital platform to optimize logistics on construction sites. The known productivity stagnation problem in the construction industry has led companies to find new innovative ways to utilize digitalization and latest technologies, like 5G and edge computing. A key question is to understand how to flexibly provide the building ecosystem players with a common, real-time 5G data platform of construction site-related information. Sharing real-time data between the players can substantially improve the material and people flow during the construction phase.
