Summary

3D printing is a booming technology that is widely regarded as an industrial revolution. The application of 3D printing and the introduction of digital technologies into the concrete construction sector are the result of the appropriation and repurposing of technology initially developed for other materials, such as resins and plastics. This chapter provides general considerations for 3D printing and additive fabrication. It describes the classifications of the methods used for the 3D printing of cement-based materials. The first method, which is the most common and the most extensively developed at this time, is the extrusion/deposition method. Next, the method using injection into a bed of particles is used in the field of cement-based materials, and has made it possible to obtain small elements as well as elements of structures, such as a recently opened pedestrian bridge in Madrid.
