Abstract

A number of new styryl, aza-styryl, acyclic mero, cyclic mero and mixed cyanine dyes with a benzo[2,3-e; 2′,3′-e′]bis-1,3,4-oxadiazine nucleus were synthesised. The absorption spectra in the visible region of all the synthesised cyanine dyes in 95% ethanol solution were examined and studied in detail. Anti-bacterial activity for a number of selected dyes was evaluated against various bacterial strains. The structural determination was carried out using elemental and spectroscopic analysis.
