Abstract

We report a successful transplantation of a kidney from a donor who was positive for the platelet bloodgroup HPA-la into a HPA-la-negative recipient with preexisting anti-HPA-la antibodies. There occurred no thrombocytopenia nor purpura or other adverse effects. This observation suggests that an incompatibility for the HPA-1 a alloantigen of platelets and endothelium need not be taken into account for matching of renal allografts.
