Graphical Abstract

Ein potentieller tetraradikaloider Kohlenwasserstoff wurde von Y. Tobe et al. aufgebaut. Wie in der Zuschrift auf S. 2118 ff. beschrieben, zeichnet sich das Tetramesitylderivat von Tetracyclopenta[def,jkl,pqr,vwx]tetraphenylen durch eine außergewöhnliche Antiaromatizität und eine kleine HOMO-LUMO-Lücke aus. In Lösung und im Kristall liegt die Verbindung – in Übereinstimmung mit theoretischen Studien – als geschlossenschalige D2h- und nicht als offenschalige D4h-Form vor.
