Abstract

Sexuality understood in terms of social identity and desire is commonly referred to in social contexts covertly. In particular implicature (suggesting one thing by saying something else/suggesting something without directly expressing it) is relied on by non-heterosexuals to manage the display of their own identity (gay implicature) as well as by heterosexual people to allude to the sexual practices of others.
