Abstract

Officially dubbed “Unite the Right” (UTR), the August 2017 gathering of white supremacists from across the country became more widely known as “Charlottesville” following a car attack that left one counter-protestor dead and more than a dozen injured. UTR was promoted to protest the decision to remove a Confederate monument in Charlottesville, Virginia. It was also an opportunity to build alliances among racist and anti-Semitic groups as part of the white supremacist movement's (WSM) effort to reach a broader segment of the white population.
