Following a PhD thesis on protein structures in Kurt Wüthrich's lab, the author completed MD studies with the installation of a 2.35-T small-bore system for neonates. As head of a research group at the University Bern, Switzerland, he was instrumental in the development of methods to observe intramyocellular lipids and various other clinical research applications of magnetic resonance spectroscopy and imaging.
