Abstract

The homogeneous hydrogenation of CC, CO, and CN bonds catalyzed by metallic compounds is reviewed. The transfer hydrogenation of similar types of substrates from hydrogen donors is also considered as a viable alternative to the use of molecular hydrogen. The asymmetric versions of both types of processes are also examined. The metals and ligands that generate the most active and selective systems are illustrated. Special attention has been paid to the currently accepted mechanisms for the different catalytic systems.
