Transplacental Nutrient Transfer and Intrauterine Growth Retardation

Abstract

Recent studies in guinea pigs and rats of amino acid and glucose transfer across the placenta following impaired placental blood flow or low protein intake indicate that a selective reduction in transplacental amino acid transport may be an important factor in intrauterine growth retardation.
