1. This paper is dedicated to the memory of Professor, Dr.Phil. Carl Johan Becker (September 3, 1915–June 3, 2001), formerly the University of Copenhagen and a longtime editor of Acta Archaeologica. C.J. Becker stressed the singular scientific quality of archaeological excavations and analyses as regards prehistory. He concentrated his considerable efforts on Denmark, including the Neolithic, the Pre-Roman Iron Age, and settlement archaeology on a large scale, in addition to the education of a full generation of archaeologists.
