Abstract

We present a review of the vortex-Nernst effect in the 3 cuprate families La2-xSrxCuO4, Bi2Sr2CaCu2O8, and YBa2Cu3Oy, and discuss the scenario that the superconducting transition in the hole-doped cuprates corresponds to the destruction of long-range phase coherence rather than the vanishing of the order-parameter amplitude.
