Elder Care
Abstract
Elder care is assistance provided to an older adult because of that person's chronic health problem or disability. Care tasks may include household work, indoor and outdoor home maintenance, banking and financial management, personal care, and care management. In developed countries, elder care is most often provided to those in advanced age as the onset of age-related chronic illnesses is prevalent after the age of 75. Most people in residential (nursing home) settings are over the age of 80. Increasingly, elder care is also provided to people who have grown old with long term disabilities.
