Summary

This chapter highlights the diversity considerations in the clinical practice of speech and language disorders (SLDs), aiming to reaffirm the necessity of making such considerations stand out in the minds of clinical service providers not as an elective facet of their agenda, but as an imperative concern. It deals with theoretical and practical aspects relating to multicultural and multilingual issues in SLDs. Context, the main generator of linguistic diversity, is also an instigator of variation in language acquisition. Applications of diversity content in clinical service provision present both challenges and opportunities. Cultural competence is yet another requisite aptitude for clinical service providers, when collaborative and culturally competent practices are aimed for. Equitable treatment leads to true equality and curtails disparities in clinical service provision, meeting people where they are, not where one thinks they are or should be.
