Summary

This chapter discusses various 5G New Radio (NR) features and how these features are used for various industries particularly Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT), vehicle-to-everything (V2X), and eHealth. It first gives an overview of 5G NR radio interface covering numerology, massive multiple-input multiple-output features for both sub-6GHz and millimeter wave spectrum, advanced channel coding followed by the three pillars of NR, namely enhanced mobile broadband, ultra-reliable and low-latency communications, and massive machine type communication. The chapter discusses selected examples of 5G verticals along with how 5G NR features are used effectively in these industries. It shows various use cases for different verticals and how they can be mapped to the three 5G use cases. The chapter also gives a technical overview of three vertical industries, IIoT, automotive V2X, and eHealth, and how 5G NR features are applied to these verticals.
