Summary

Large bowel obstruction (LBO) has many causes, the commonest being colorectal cancer. It has 100% mortality if left untreated. Therefore, prompt diagnosis and treatment is essential with early surgical team referral. Most cases will require an operation, although in selected cases colonic stenting may be used. The chapter discusses the aetiology, clinical features, investigations and treatment of LBO.
