Summary

The advent of Web 2.0 technologies has ignited explosive growth in the use of social media tools and social networking activities. Social networking allows trainers to extend learning between formal training events. A digital round robin is an activity in which learners engage in content review by generating and answering questions in turn. This activity was created as a Twitter-based item, but any chat tool would work. Precourse blog reflection helps develop learner readiness for learning by encouraging a realistic assessment of current skills. Social media opinion polling is an activity focusing on using social media to conduct a quick survey concerning training design and implementing new presentation strategies and designs. A quiz challenge strategy uses a public discussion board and posting to review quiz challenges in an online course where multiple-choice questions form the quiz. This chapter discusses the activities with case examples.
