Summary

Providing time and talent by volunteering is a way to learn and give something back at the same time. Volunteering may occur within the same skill set and profession or be something completely different. Employees who volunteer almost always learn skills, such as leadership, communication, and teamwork. This chapter presents five volunteering strategies. The first strategy is for participants to gain leadership skills while volunteering. The second strategy builds skills, delivers experience, and helps others through volunteering. The third strategy provides a volunteering option that taps into an individual's need for growth and development. The fourth strategy is an opportunity for a group of employees to establish a long-term relationship and hone a variety of skills while doing good at the same time. The final strategy provides an opportunity for inexperienced employees to learn skills as they work beside a senior leader.
