Technology in the Classroom
Summary
Today, trainers consider how they can take advantage of technology in the classroom. Activities can and should be built around the tools that participants bring to the classroom. Twitter engagement works best with participants who are already using Twitter; play it safe and provide a tutorial and instructions on how to set up prior to the class. Using QR codes create a scavenger hunt as a team-building exercise. This will get participants moving around and physically searching for answers. The QR codes create a theme with the questions so that participants can connect the exercise to the learning event. The pause and discover strategy ensures that learning videos do not become passive learning experiences and that they can facilitate active learning, summary, practice, and/or application of learned skills. This chapter discusses the strategies with case examples.
