Chapter 20

Transfer Learning Actions

First published: 27 April 2015

Summary

The participant must be committed to the change in order for learning to transfer. In addition, the supervisor must provide the learner with support. The trainer must support the learner while in the session as well as follow up after the session. To ensure that what was learned is not “shelved” for implementation at another time but applied immediately, we can experiment with follow-up contact, follow-up sharing among participants, support groups, peer participant mentors, job aids, and management support and coaching. The chapter discusses different strategies that include peer coaching circle, learning transfer support partners, creating catch phrases, send it in a postcard, virtual book club and developing a leader network. The strategies are explained based on participants, procedure, debrief, variations, and case examples. The leader network can yield the results each individual wants.
