Chapter 19

Closing Summaries and Evaluation

First published: 27 April 2015

Summary

The success of active training is measured by how well participants transfer learning back on the job. Summaries help participants compile what they have learned and what they will take back to the job. A key points strategy is a summary strategy that reminds participants of the most significant learning points. A think, link and ink strategy combines a recap with brief pair work. A storyboard activity is used to review comprehension and application of process training. It allows for creativity and the openness of team members to share what and how they have learned a process thus far. A picture-perfect ending activity draws upon images presented throughout the session to increase the learners' retention. A dynamic, memorable closing is a key factor in helping participants internalize the information and carry it forward to action.
