Ar.den.ti.ca.te'ni.a. N.L. fem. n. Ardenticatena the type genus of the type order of the class; suff. -ia ending to denote a class; N.L. neut. pl. n. Ardenticatenia the Ardenticatenales class.

Chloroflexi / Ardenticatenia

The class Ardenticatenia is currently represented by a single species, which was reportedly distinct from members of other classes on the basis of a phylogenetic tree by comparative 16S rRNA gene sequence analysis from a wide variety of cultivated strains and environmental clones. Cells are nonpigmented and form multicellular filaments. Spores are not formed. Thermophilic chemoorganotrophs.
