Abstract

Language can be connected to masculinity through the language used by men, and through language ideologically connected to stereotypical traits of men in a particular culture. The study of language and masculinity is fairly recent, and has focused on the different ways that power and hegemonic masculinity motivate men to use particular linguistic forms. Several examples from English, the language in which most of the work has be carried out, are discussed.
