Summary

This conclusion chapter of “3DTV: Processing and Transmission of 3D Video Signals”, summarizes other chapters of the book and also looks ahead to what developments are required to make 3DTV a lasting success. It outlines the areas where progress is needed. The chapter discusses their importance with regards to the continuing spread of 3DTV: understanding of human 3D perception; display technologies; production approaches and technologies and compression algorithms. Under the section on production approaches and technologies the chapter talks about two key areas: 3D video processing techniques, and 3D video capture. Both of these pose significant challenges for content creators, and will therefore benefit from improvements in approaches and technologies.
