Abstract

Fundamental to social work practice is collecting informationmdash;data—about a client's problems, strengths, and environment, and then using this information to make judgements about the client and how to best assist her or him. This chapter presents an in-depth discussion of the collection of information from and about a client, and then the use of this information to make inferences about what is happening with the client and how to best provide assistance.
