Abstract

This chapter on Moral Development will: (1) briefly explain the construct, (2) provide an overview of Kohlberg's theory of moral development, (3) summarize the core tenets of the theory while evaluating the empirical support for them, (4) identify an area of practice where the application of moral development theory has the most relevance to professional social work, (5) provide some brief biographical information on the founder of modern moral development theory, and (6) discuss the two most frequently used instruments to measure moral development.
