Abstract

Erik Erikson's eight-stage psychosocial theory is a departure from the classic psychoanalytic tradition of his day, viewing development throughout the lifecycle, starting with the infant at birth and ending with old age and death. Psychosocial theory also drew attention to social factors that contribute to human development, foreshadowing interest in the ecological approach to person-in-environment relationships.
