Abstract

This chapter explores five issues germane to current and future understandings and practices of social work: post-modernism/social construction, globalization, evidence-based practice, ethics, and the profession. Beginning with a discussion of the meaning of the term “issue,” the chapter proceeds to a discussion of each of the above topics and their interrelationships. No claim is made that the issues discussed are the definitive ones for the profession, only that they are important and deserve consideration.
