Pulse Propagation Analysis from a Variational Principle

It is shown that a variational principle may be applied to the time-dependent analysis of a pulse propagation in semiconductor heterostructures. The method is illustrated using potential barriers and wells with a simple Gaussian ansatz for the wave function.
