Abstract

The concepts of independent right censoring and noninformative right censoring in survival analysis are defined. Dependent censoring is a kind of selection bias and adds to biased inference for the survival time distribution. Informative censoring typically leads to inefficient inference. Examples are presented and relations between right censoring and competing risks are discussed. Other kinds of censoring, including interval censoring are touched upon.
