Abstract

Birth defects registries can be used to determine the prevalence of birth defects in newborns and can serve as a source of cases for etiologic investigations. We discuss the types of information in population-based and nonpopulation-based birth defects registries. We describe some prevention policies that were based on studies of registered cases and population controls.
