Ga22[Si(SiMe3)3]8: The Largest Atom-Centered Neutral Main Group Metal Cluster

Abstract
A metal-rich intermediate was captured prior to metal formation by means of a substitution reaction during the disproportionation of a metastable GaI bromide solution. In the thus obtained Ga22 cluster (see structure), the central gallium atom displays the unusual coordination number of 13.
