Abstract

PbZrO3-PbTiO3-Bi(Zn2/3Nb1/3)O3 ternary solid solution system with various compositions is synthesized in the form of ceramics by solid-state reaction method. Their crystal structure and electric properties are investigated by X-ray diffraction, dielectric spectroscopy, ferroelectric and piezoelectric measurements. Studies are mainly focused on two series of compounds 0.95[(1−x)PbZrO3-xPbTiO3]-0.05Bi(Zn2/3Nb1/3)O3 and 0.90[(1−x)PbZrO3-xPbTiO3]-0.10Bi(Zn2/3Nb1/3)O3, which have their compositions across the morphotropic phase boundary (MPB). It is found that the addition of Bi(Zn2/3Nb1/3)O3 broadens the MPB region of the well-known lead zirconate titanate (PZT) binary system and leads to a gradually curved MPB line in the pseudobinary phase diagram and a gradually decreased Curie temperature in these two systems. Enhanced remnant polarization, coercive field, and electromechanical properties are found in the ternary solid solution system compared with pure PZT ceramics.
