Organische Sulfonium-Verbindungen wurden als strukturdirigierende Reagentien für die Synthese von Zeolithen und Zeolith-Analoga eingesetzt. In ihrer Zuschrift auf S. 12996 ff. beschreiben R. Ryoo et al. die Herstellung eines Zeolithen mit MEL-Struktur sowie von drei Germanosilicat-Zeolithen (ISV, ITT und eine neuartige Zeolith-Struktur) unter Verwendung von Tributylsulfonium, Triphenylsulfonium und Tri(para-tolyl)sulfonium. Das neue Germanosilicat hat eine offene Struktur mit 15×12×12-Ring-Poren.
