Eisencarbidnanopartikel mit graphitischer Hülle sind bei der Reduktion von Sauerstoff aktiv. In ihrer Zuschrift auf S. 3749 ff. berichten W. Xing, Q. F. Li et al., dass hohle Kugeln aus diesen Nanopartikeln ohne Oberflächenstickstoff oder funktionelle metallische Gruppen sowohl im sauren als auch im alkalischen Milieu eine hohe Aktivität und Stabilität zeigen. Die Katalysatoren können in einem einstufigen Prozess hergestellt werden.
