Nicht so einfach: Laut 13C-Markierungsstudien, Metabolit-Profiling und zellfreien Reaktionen tragen sowohl der Shikimat- als auch der Phenylalanin-Biosyntheseweg zum Aufbau der bicyclischen Struktur des Vibralactons bei. Das Enzym VibPT sowie eine aromatische PTase, die erstmals in Basidiomyceten charakterisiert wurde, sind an der Vibralacton-Biosynthese beteiligt. OPP=Pyrophosphat.
