Eine Lösung für Faltungsprobleme: Selenocystein(Sec)-Reste wurden genutzt, um die Faltung von Conotoxin MrVIB, einem vormals „unfaltbaren“ Miniprotein mit therapeutischem Potenzial, zu induzieren (siehe Bild). Diese Strategie für die einfache Faltung von Peptiden und Proteinen mit mehreren Disulfidbindungen dürfte allgemein anwendbar sein.
