Summary

A broad range of technologies currently allow 3D display. While they mostly remain associated with specific domains of application, they clearly show a long-term trend toward the democratization of these technologies and a genuine, permanent spread of 3D content. This chapter is devoted to autostereoscopic techniques, which present a number of advantages along with certain limitations. It begins by discussing the subjacent technological elements involved in these techniques, before describing the principles of multiplexing multiview images, including design of mixing filters and use. The next section discusses the generation of multiview images, and the concept of interleaving. The chapter ends by offering perspectives for further research.
