Der Nachweis monocyclischer aromatischer Kohlenwasserstoffe, z. B. p-, m-, o-Xylol, Toluol und Benzol (15), gelang in einer Messung, wobei ein planarer IR-ATR-faseroptischer Sensor verwendet wurde, der mit Ethylen/Propylen-Copolymer beschichtet war (ATR=abgeschwächte Totalreflexion). Verglichen mit herkömmlichen IR-Methoden hat das System einen großen dynamischen Nachweisbereich.
