Unter Druck gesetzt werden katalysatorhaltige, in Wasser dispergierte 1-Octanoltröpfchen, um so die Morphologie der Polymerpartikel bei der Ethylen/CO-Copolymerisation zu steuern. Der Pd-Katalysator sollte mit lipophilen, langen Alkylketten ausgestattet sein. Polymerpartikel mit einer Größe von 0.5–1.0 mm (siehe Aufnahmen) und Volumendichten von 0.2–0.3 g mL−1 werden ohne Reaktorverschmutzung produziert.
