Molekulare Evolution: Antimikrobielle Peptide (AMPs) können von amyloidanfälligen Regionen abgeleitet werden, indem man kationische Reste an privilegierten Positionen einführt (siehe Bild). 24 neue, von Amyloid abgeleitete AMPs wurden entworfen und getestet, und die Wahrscheinlichkeit für die Evolution von amyloidanfälligen Proteinregionen mit fehlender antimikrobieller Aktivität in potente antimikrobielle Domänen wurde untersucht.
