Der kationische pyramidale P-C-Cluster 2 kann ausgehend von 1 (siehe Schema; •=CtBu) leicht erhalten werden. 1 ist außerdem eine ausgezeichnete Ausgangsverbindung für die Synthese des Anions 3. Dass das globale Energieminimum von [CH]5+-Ionen nach Einbau von drei Phosphoratomen (CH) nicht mehr ein ungesättigter Cyclus, sondern eine gesättigte Käfigstruktur wie in 2 ist, wird durch DFT-Rechnungen bestätigt.
