Die Halogenomolybdate (1) und (2) sind die ersten ihrer Art. Während Verbindungen mit dem analogen Anion CrO₃X⁻ seit langem bekannt sind, scheiterte die Bildung von MoO₃X⁻ bisher daran, daß Mo die Koordinationszahl 6 bevorzugt. Ein ausreichend großes Kation vermag dies jedoch zu ändern.
