To accentuate the textured titanium surface, we chose to present it from a distinctive angle. Integration of a red laser source not only pays homage to the intricate laser etching process but also evokes the imagery of a starrise on a planetary surface. This choice adds fascination and depth to the texture, while also providing a subtle nod to the material's unique production method, enhancing the overall visual impact.

Fabrication and characterization of a hydrocolloid wound dressing functionalized with human placental derived extracellular matrix for management of skin wounds: An animal study

Human placental derived extracellular matrix (ECM) can improve the process of wound healing. To take advantage of this property, An ECM-functionalized hydrocolloid wound dressing was fabricated. This dressing significantly improves full-thickness wound healing in a mouse model and induces the regeneration of skin appendices.

Computational fluid dynamics-based design and in vitro characterization of a novel pediatric pump-lung

  • A new ECMO specifically for pediatrics, i.e., pediatric pump-lung (PPL), was developed and evaluated based on numerical and experimental methods.
  • The PPL has excellent hemolysis and gas transfer performance.
  • The PPL has the potential to support a wide range of pediatric patients with respiratory/cardiac failure.

Role of perfusion medium in rewarming machine perfusion from hypo- to normothermia

The study compares intra- and extracellular type perfusion media for the use in machine perfusion-assisted rewarming from hypo- to normothermia. The results show that Belzer MPS seems to be an alternative to a normothermic medium like Steen solution for rewarming machine perfusion.

Long-term predictors of morbidity and mortality in patients following LVAD replacement

Replacement with HM3 showed superior outcomes compared to all other pump types when controlling for both initial pump type and other independent predictors of death or LVAD replacement. Preoperative ECMO, mechanical ventilation, and multiple sternotomies also increased the odds for death or need for subsequent replacement.

Depressive symptoms, right ventricular function, and muscular strength are associated with peak oxygen uptake in patients with implantable left ventricular assist devices

Depressive symptoms, right ventricular function, and muscular strength are associated with peak oxygen uptake in patients with implantable left ventricular assist devices

This study investigated the factors associated with peak VO2 in patients with left ventricular assist devices. Depressive symptoms, right ventricular function, and muscular strength are associated; thus, cardiac rehabilitation may be useful.

Do patients dialysing with higher ultrafiltration rates report more intradialytic symptoms and longer postdialysis recovery times?

Do patients dialysing with higher ultrafiltration rates report more intradialytic symptoms and longer postdialysis recovery times?

Many hemodialysis (HD) patients suffer with cramps, hypotension, headaches and fatigue during and after a HD treatment. We compared patient self-reported peridialytic symptoms. To determine whether higher ultrafiltration rates (UFR) were associated with more peridialytic symptoms we compared symptom reporting in more than 600 patients divided according to UFR, and found no association with peridialytic symptom reporting and postdialysis recovery times.

Preservation of pulsatility with universal ventricular assist device: In vitro assessment for biventricular support

Biventricular support with UVAD amplified the aortic pulse pressure. The biventricular UVAD also preserved the EEP and the SHE.
