Call for Papers
Food Prices in the Agri-Food Sector
Submission deadline: Monday, 1 December 2025
Agribusiness: An International Journal is issuing an open call for the submission of applied economic research related to food prices and their implications for agribusiness firms, supply chains, and consumers. This special issue will provide a platform for research that examines how food price changes influence business decisions, consumer purchasing, and market performance in agri-food systems.
We welcome theoretical and empirical contributions that bring new insight into how firms and consumers respond to changing cost conditions, input market uncertainty, and inflationary pressures. Case studies and review articles will also be considered.
Topics of interest include (but are not limited to):
- Firm strategies in pricing and product offerings: Including price adjustments, shrinkflation, hedging strategies, and private label product development.
- Consumer response to food price changes: Including substitution behavior, shifting preferences, and the use of promotions or loyalty programs.
- Procurement, transportation, and supply chain adjustments: Including logistics costs, supplier relationships, and inventory strategies in response to price increases or volatility.
- Global trade and food prices: Including the role of tariffs, export bans, and trade policy changes on agri-food pricing.
- Input cost pressures and production decisions: Including the effects of energy, fertilizer, labor, and packaging costs on agribusiness operations.
- Food affordability and access: Including market-based approaches to address affordability in underserved communities.
- Commodities markets and price transmission: Including futures markets, hedging behavior, the role of price expectations, and linkages between spot and contract prices in agri-food markets.
- Climate events, natural disasters, and food prices: Including the effects of droughts, floods, extreme heat, or disease outbreaks on food production costs, market availability, and price changes.
- Forecasting food prices: Including applications of machine learning, time-series models, and predictive analytics to anticipate food price changes and inform firm or policy decisions.
- Review articles related to pricing in agri-food markets: Including overviews of recent trends, methods, and policy approaches.
