Laser Ablation ICP-MS (AGU 1996) Virtual Special Issue

This Virtual Special Issue comprises ten papers which developed from a special session at the American Geophysical Union (AGU) meeting in December 1996, held in San Francisco, USA. The papers, along with a guest editorial by the convenors, Paul Sylvester and Tom McCandless, were originally published in Volume 21 (Issue 2) of the Journal in December 1997.

Reflecting the theme of the AGU special session, the collection comprises two sets of papers - dealing with analytical methodologies of LA-ICP-MS and geochemical applications of the technique. Two papers (Perkins et al. and Nesbitt et al.) serve as overviews of these aspects. The NIST glass certified reference materials feature in several of the contributions, and a wide range of geological materials are analysed, including volcanic glass shards, sulfide minerals, metamorphic garnets, fluid inclusions in quartz and natural gold.
