(a) Section of the structure of i-Al–Cu–Fe based on a model by Quiquandon & Gratias (2006BB88) and (b) a part (for the sake of clarity) of the unit cell of its f.c.c. periodic average structure, which is of the NaCl type (cf. Steurer & Haibach, 1999BB104). The chemical decoration of the atomic surfaces is still visible after the oblique projection (Al grey, Cu red, Fe green).
