William Good MD

Bill Good was born in rural Virginia and grew up a sports fanatic (baseball, running, tennis, hockey). After attending Princeton University, he went to the University of Cincinnati Medical College.

Subsequently, Dr Good undertook residencies in psychiatry and neurology, and then ophthalmology at the University of California, San Francisco, followed by a paediatrics fellowship with Creig Hoyt and Art Jampolsky. He practiced on the UCSF faculty, moved to Cincinnati to Chair their eye department, and then returned to San Francisco to work at the Smith-Kettlewell Eye Research Institute, where he is Senior Scientist.

Dr Good conducts research on paediatric eye disease. He chaired the Early Treatment for Retinopathy of Prematurity Study, which has just published its final results. Currently, Dr Good is exploring possible effects of neonatal jaundice on visual development.

Jagjit Singh Gilhotra MBBS MMed FRANZCO

Jolly Gilhotra graduated MBBS from the University of Sydney and received a Masters of Medicine also from the University of Sydney. He undertook his ophthalmology training at the Royal Victorian Eye and Ear Hospital (Melbourne) and the Sydney Eye Hospital, thereafter completing two and a half years retinal fellowship training. He is currently Head of Unit at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, and his interests are in macula surgery and uveitis.

Srinivas Rao is an ophthalmic surgeon with special interest and expertise in cataract, cornea and LASIK surgery.

Dr Rao received his MBBS from Madras University, Diploma in Ophthalmology from the Dr MGR Medical University, DNB from the National Board of Examinations in New Delhi, and FRCS from the Royal College of Surgeons, Edinburgh, UK.

Dr Rao worked as a senior consultant in the cornea service in Sankara Nethralaya, 1991–2004, introducing many firsts to corneal surgery in India, and as a Professor in the Chinese University of Hong Kong 2004–2006. In 2006 Dr Rao returned to India and took up the position of director of the Darshan Eye Clinic, Chennai, and is a visiting consultant to the Madras Medical Mission, Chennai. Dr Rao is Head of Department of the cornea service, Sunetra Family Eye Care, Kolkata, Honorary Professor, Chinese University of Hong Kong, Visiting Professor, Shantou Medical University, China, and Professor, Muvpgo, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

Dr Rao has 185 peer-reviewed publications and 19 book chapters. He is the editor of a series of books titled A to Z in Ophthalmology, and serves on the panels of a number of peer-reviewed journals.

Timothy Lai is currently Honorary Clinical Associate Professor of the Department of Ophthalmology & Visual Sciences, The Chinese University of Hong Kong. His clinical and research interests lie in the medical and surgical management of retinal diseases, particularly polypoidal choroidal vasculopathy, central serous chorioretinopathy, myopic maculopathy, diabetic retinopathy, choroidal neovascularization; visual electrophysiology; and genetics of retinal diseases and uveitis. He has served as a Principle Investigator in over 15 industry-sponsored clinical trials for treatment retinal diseases and uveitis.

Associate Professor Lai has published more than 160 papers in international peer-reviewed journals and co-authored and edited 10 textbooks. He has received a number of awards including the Nakajima Award of the Asia-Pacific Academy of Ophthalmology in 2008 and Achievement Award of the American Academy of Ophthalmology in 2010.

Associate Professor Lai serves on the Editorial Boards of 10 ophthalmic journals, including Retina, Eye, and Clinical and Experimental Ophthalmology. He is former Editor-in-Chief of the Hong Kong Journal of Ophthalmology, a council member of the Asia-Pacific Vitreo-Retina Society, and an international council member representing China in the International Ocular Inflammation Society.
