Correction to ‘An audit of computed tomography request practices for suspected cervical spine injury post-guideline change in a tertiary referral paediatric hospital’

First published: 26 April 2023

Sires, J, Ovenden, C, Antoniou, G, Robinson, N, Williams, N. An audit of computed tomography request practices for suspected cervical spine injury post-guideline change in a tertiary referral paediatric hospital. ANZ J. Surg., 2022; 92: 1807. https://doi.org/10.1111/ans.17183

In paragraph 2 of the ‘Investigations’ section, the text “Median total radiation exposure per CT scan post-guideline modification (n = 12) was 285.3 mSV (range 93.0–944.9 mSV). This was not significantly different to pre-guideline modification (n = 17); median 331.3 mSV (range 121.0–2115.9 mSV (P = 0.31)). The large dose CT was for CT angiography to rule outvertebral artery dissection.” is incorrect. This should have read: ‘The average effective dose in patients receiving a C-spine CT scan was 4.1 mSv (range 1.6–11.5). Data to calculate effective dose were unavailable for two patients. The average effective dose of patients receiving CT at our institution was 3.2 mSv (range 1.6–5.6), with the highest dose associated with CT angiography to rule out vertebral artery dissection. In two patients scanned at another paediatric unit prior to referral to our hospital, the effective doses were 2.3 and 2.6 mSv. In two patients scanned at non-paediatric units prior to referral to our hospital, effective doses were 10.4 and 11.5 mSv’.

In Table 1, the corresponding cells

are incorrect and should be deleted.

We apologize for these errors.
