Updates on body contouring—Introduction
During these defining times, we all have been affected by this pandemic. Our countries, businesses, families, loved ones, have experienced health, social, economic, and political issues, that may severely impact our lives like never before.
The world is undergoing a challenging health crisis, as it is swiftly spreading through every continent, jeopardizing the healthcare system's ability to cope with such an unfortunate event. Remarkably, frontline workers have stood with communities without hesitation, supporting on their shoulders the burden of societies being pushed to the edge. Since day one, healthcare professionals have stood firm delivering the care that communities are doughtily in need. Thanking and acknowledging them, is the least these words can do. Equally, other personnel that have been overlooked, have proven to us its essentialness. Those working at security offices, delivery companies, grocery stores, and many other services that make isolation more bearable—we thank you.
We must work together, moving a step forward giving without expecting anything back. Keep helping your family, friends, neighbors, colleagues, communities, and encourage them to be better themselves, bringing back to everyday life dormant family values. Hopefully, a vaccine or a treatment will be available, so that we may embrace our families again with even greater affection.
Meanwhile, self-development continues nonstop during this life-changing experience and we have got your back covered with Dermatological Reviews. The next two issues have been dedicated to outstanding updates on body contouring, a frequent consultation concern in the dermatology, plastic surgery, and esthetic medicine practice. Lately, the body contouring industry has exploded to an extent comparable to skin rejuvenation and has become more pronounced in our post-COVID reopenings.
Briefly, in these issues readers will gain insightful knowledge about trendy body contouring procedures, including Dr. Katz's in-deep review about high-intensity focused electromagnetic technology that contains great clinical samples. Dr. Holcomb et al. developed the first helium plasma resurfacing consensus guidelines, comprehensively covering from patient selection to side effect avoidance and complication management; Caroline Bauknecht; and Dr. Gold, discussed recent advancements in radiofrequency devices for skin tightening and body contouring, displaying key remarks about cutting edge radiofrequency devices. I am confident that these reviews, as with all in these issues, will impact our practices, improving patient experience in the clinic setting as we gradually reopen our clinics.
I would like to thank Dr. Michael Gold for his invaluable mentorship and for this opportunity; being guest editor for these issues has been a rewarding experience. Also, I want to thank Ms. Angela Brown, her exceptional assistance has been of paramount importance in the development of my activities with this issue. It is evident that Dermatological Reviews will continue growing and soon will establish as a sought-after resource for every practitioner looking to cover basic science or gain meaningful clinical insight.
Wishing you all the best, stay safe and healthy,
